Shekou International School (SIS)

Introduction

Established in 1988, Shekou International School (SIS) is a non-profit school originally founded by major oil companies and now sponsored by International School Services, based in Princeton, New Jersey, USA. SIS is the oldest international school in Shekou.

SIS offers a comprehensive program serving children age 2 to 18 (Nursery to Grade 12). Pre-K to G5 are located at the beautiful Mountainside Campus in Jingshan Villas; Middle and High Schools are located at the ultra modern waterfront Bayside site. A multicultural student body represents 40 countries. SIS offers a standard-based, American-style curriculum, taught by experienced and certified teachers in all subjects. Current enrollment is well over 640 and growing.

Carefully designed and selective admission criteria, integrated curriculum based on best practices, an enriched Chinese program, and strong English-literacy support are some of the key features in SIS. At the state-of-the-art, all wireless, Middle and High School, SIS offers college level AP courses and online Virtual High School classes in a variety of areas. Selections of sports, clubs, after school activities and community service are also available.

SIS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since 1990. SIS is, notably, the first international school in Guangdong to hold the National Council of Curriculum and Textbooks (NCCT, China) accreditation, as well. SIS is actively pursuing candidacy status for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in 2010; and is expecting to add a beautiful additional 2800 sq m space to its current Jingshan facility by Fall of 2009.

Tuition for kindergarten is 132K RMB, elementary and middle school is 148K RMB and high school is 156K RMB per year. Shekou International School presently has over 650 students representing 40 different countries. Among them 20% are American, 55% are Asian and 20% are European.
