Interlaken OCT Hotel

Introduction

Add to the list of ‘only in China’. A luxury alpine resort hotel replicating a Swiss village with Chinese folks dressed in lederhosen sitting in subtropical southern China. The Interlaken OCT (Overseas Chinese Town) Hotel is set in the hills of Eastern Shenzhen. It is part of an enormous theme park development that includes the hotel, 20,000 m² spa, antique train, Eco Park and Theater. Opened in 2007 the hotel caters primarily to the domestic market who presumably has never been to Europe much less a real alpine village. The location is about an hour from Shenzhen airport and 30 minutes from downtown Shenzhen. As part of a 9 square kilometer theme park there are plenty of unique recreational outlets including the Wind Valley Golf Club, IN-SPA Villa, China’s largest indoor and outdoor mineral spring spa, Sanzhou Tea Garden and a unique Tea Show which features a Zen theme with sound and light.

The Cuckoo Clock stage has an outdoor performance hourly during the day. Nearby tennis courts are available as well as three themed villages replete with gingerbread facades. Inside the hotel there is a fitness center. Guest rooms are spacious at 56 m². The decoration is opulent with a distinctly European panache. Rooms have 42-inch LCD TVs, large modern writing desk, broadband internet access, DVD players, full range of international and Chinese television and movie channels, coffee and tea-making facilities, European-style linens, in-room safe, mini bar stocked with European brands of food and drink, hair dryer. Some rooms have a circular bathtub which overlooks the lake. The beds have Western style pillow top mattresses. The large bathrooms are well designed with premium amenities. The odd location and theme are a bit strange but the guest rooms are on par with the best.
