Sheraton Dameisha Resort

Introduction

Completed in 2007, this resort is the first luxury hotel in Shenzhen coastal town of Dameisha. The striking modern architecture resembles a glass dragon overlooking the hotel’s private beach on Dapeng Bay. The large lobby is artful and bright with wonderful natural textures under a glass atrium. A fabulous glass chandelier sits above a modern circular feng shui fountain. Small bamboo groves define the comfortable seating area giving the large space a sense of intimacy.

The lobby lounge overlooks the huge free form swimming pool that wraps sinuously around the hotel and beach. As one might expect at a resort hotel, the recreation facilities are extensive. There are three outdoor swimming pools with the largest an enormous 1,300 m². Another indoor pool is heated. The fitness center is well equipped with views of the beach. There is an unsupervised kids play area plus a tennis court. The Spring Field Spa features Chinese wellness treatments. The beach area has water sports available from 3rd party operators. Golf is available nearby at Guanlanhu in the Overseas Chinese Town Holiday Resort. Other nearby attractions include Minsk World, a decommissioned Russian aircraft carrier turned theme park. Oddly except for a sundries shop there are no retail outlets in the hotel which is not convenient as the area is a bit isolated.

The outstanding guest rooms all face the ocean with balconies. The smallest rooms, Ocean Deluxe, are a generous 50 m². All rooms have Sheraton Sweet Sleeper beds, 37” flat screen LCD TVs, Safes, voice mail, mini bar, writing desks iron and ironing boards. Broadband Internet is RMB 50 per day. The bathrooms are modern with a large circular bath tub which overlooks the bedroom and ocean beyond. The decorations are contemporary but low key with natural colors. The view of the beach is something special. On the weekends, the Sheraton Dameisha Resort fills its rooms with Shenzhen and Hong Kong residents looking for a luxury escape in a tranquil environment. During the week, it’s all business with meeting groups. The resort seems to handle both very well. The distant location may deter international visitors from staying here, but for those that make the effort they will be surprised and rewarded.
