Happy Valley

Introduction

Happy Valley Theme Park is located in OCT (Windows of the World metro station; walk towards Crowne Plaza and you will see the signs). Happy Valley, as the name may suggest, is Shenzhen’s No. 1 theme park, though not the only one.

Unlike Splendid China, Happy Valley is not for the faint hearted, with all the rides that some of the best theme parks in the world have. It also has a cool “Game” area where you can blow a lot of money on a stuffed toy that you can buy in Dongmen for 5 “kuai,” or 5 RMB.

Entry is 150 RMB per person and expect to spend the whole day; not because of the large number of rides but because of the large number of people visiting the park.

The whole park is composed of nine areas with different themes, including Spanish Square, Cartoon City, Mt. Adventure, Gold Mine Town, Shangri-la Woods, Sunshine Beach, Typhoon Bay, Playa Maya Water Park and Happy Times. The park encompasses nearly 100 exciting games for adults and children. Every day in the park, there are excellent performances in different styles, such as magic, acrobatics and extreme sports.

One word of advice: DO NOT go on a holiday or a weekend. When I went, I waited 3 hours for obviously the best ride in the park – the roller coaster. Also, it’s best to go with a group of people so you have people to talk to whilst lining up.
